She loves working on suspens, action, animation and period drama films. With both an American citizenship and a Canadian citizenship, she is able to work at ease in both countries and in co-productions.

Stephanie Hamelin Tomala is a professional composer, violinist, pianist and singer. She completed a certificate degree DESS in film scoring in June 2015 at the University of Quebec in Montreal. She then completed a master’s degree in instrumental composition under the direction of Denis Gougeon at the University of Montreal in 2017. She also had the opportunity of studying film scoring and orchestration in 2016 at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Lyon, France with Gilles Alonzo as mentor. Passionate with music vocals, her work also reveals a keen interest in writing for string instruments. Her music was noticed in festivals and competitions like Accès Arkéa, Open Ears Festival, the Intercultural Orchestra of Montreal competition and the courts métrages 3/4 de Cinéma à la Scène Nationale de Valenciennes competition in 2016. She has written music for over 20 short films and one feature documentary. My invisible Mother, With a thousand eyes and Femmes sourdes dites-moi…/Death women told me… are movies for which Stephanie has composed the music and they have made their mark in film festivalsaround the world.

Stephanie is currently working as a film music composer artist for the company Velvet Green music based in Santa Monica, California. Recently, she was also selected as a composer at the film music masterclass directed by Stephen Warbeck during the International film festival of Aubagne, France in march 2018.

-FIRST PLACE WINNER in the category Best Original Score-Animated for the music of the film Area 51 awarded by the SOCAN Foundation Awards for Emerging Audio-Visual Composers, in 2018.

-SECOND PLACE WINNER in the category Best Original Score-Fiction for the music of the film What’s Within awarded by the SOCAN Foundation Awards for Emerging Audio-Visual Composers, in 2018.

-Selected in the first SESAC Scores Workshop with 11 other composers in july 2018. She was mentored by the composers Christophe Beck (Ant-man, Frozen, The Edge of tomorow) and Chris Bacon (Bates Motel)

-She is one if the 9 Selected composer that participated at the film music masterclass directed by the composer Stephen Warbeck (oscar winner for Shakespeare in love) during the International film festival of Aubagne, France in march 2018.

-Winner of the best sound and music award for the Movie ''RETOUR'' at the competition courts métrages 3/4 de Cinéma, in april 2016, Le Phénix, Scène Nationale de Valenciennes, France.

-Her chorus piece “Louez L'Éternel” was selected and interpreted by the DaCapo Chamber Choir for young composers reading sessions in June 2014, as part of the Open Ears Festival in Waterloo, Ontario.

-Finalist in the Accès Arkéa composition competition for her piece “The Heart of the Forest” for string ensemble which was interpreted by l'Ensemble Arkéa under the direction of Dina Gilbert (Assistant chief director of l'OSM) in 2014.

-Winner of the Intercultural Orchestra of Montreal’s composition competition for her string orchestra piece ”La Barque Naufragée” in 2013.
