Sara Brandt is a student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts set to graduate in May. She is pursuing a Masters in Fine Arts in Film Music Composition. She works as a composer for film, television and video games, arranger, conductor, and a flautist. Her experience covers many different digital audio workstations, recording studio equipment, and music notation software with skills such as recording, mixing, and engineering
Born in Missouri, Sara and her family moved to Mooresville, North Carolina when she was ten. It was here that she began playing flute and found a passion of music through middle and high school band.
By the end of high school, Sara developed a strong interest in music for film and started to pursue this during her time at Western Carolina University.
At WCU, Sara performed in many different ensembles including the Pride of the Mountains marching band, Wind Ensemble, Symphony Band, and flute ensemble. She has served on staff in the marching band as a section leader. She was a member of the Honors College and treasurer of the Western North Carolina Flute Society. She has received a number of scholarships for her musical performance and academic achievement including the Chancellor's Scholarship.
After graduating, Sara then attended the University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, NC. While pursuing her Masters, Sara learned many techniques and aspects of film composition and worked on student films with undergraduate filmmakers as a composer, music editor, and assistants to composers.
After graduating, Sara plans to continue working with music in various forms of media in the professional world.
