Germaine Franco is an accomplished composer, percussionist, and music producer working in Hollywood today. She combines a world music palette with orchestral, electronica, and modern influences to create a vibrant sound. Recently, Germaine composed the score to DOPE, directed by Rick Famuyiwa, for Forest Whitaker’s Significant Productions, iamOTHER Entertainment, Open Road Entertainment, and Sony Pictures. DOPE premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and the Cannes Film Festival. Additional scores include Margarita, directed by Dominique Cardona and Laurie Colbert, for Telefilm and Mongrel Media, Tres Américas, directed by Cristina Kotz Cornejo, for Vanguard Media, and La Carpa, directed by Carlos Avila, for PBS’s American Playhouse. Franco co-composed and produced the theme for the Angry Birds Rio video game for Rovio and Fox Mobile, and created the music for the Book of Life: Sugar Smash video game for Social Gaming Network and Fox Mobile. Her documentary scores include A Crushing Love directed by Sylvia Morales, for Women Make Movies, Visions of Aztlán directed by Jesus Salvador Treviño for PBS, and Mujeres Como Tú, for the National Council of La Raza. She provided additional music, orchestrations, music programming, overdub music production, or percussion performance for John Powell (The Italian Job, Happy Feet, Rio 2, How To Train Your Dragon 2), Randy Newman (Toy Story 3), Hans Zimmer (Kung Fu Panda 2), Gustavo Santaolalla (The Book of Life), and Jeff Russo (Fargo, Tut). Franco holds a Bachelor Degree and Master Degree in Music from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. She is a 2015 Sundance Music and Sound Design Lab Fellow. Germaine has performed worldwide as a percussionist with many world-renowned orchestras and artists including the Belgian Radio Orchestra at the World Soundtrack Awards in Belgium, the Spoleto Festival Orchestra in Italy, the Vienna Boys Choir in Austria, the Harlem Boys Choir and the World Orchestra Germany. She performed with the Hollywood Symphony Orchestra for Danny Elfman’s Music From The Films Of Tim Burton at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Franco was a featured musician with The Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, Jack Black, Judith Hill, Hans Zimmer, and John Powell, for the DreamWorks Animation 20th Anniversary Concert at The Hollywood Bowl. She was a guest soloist at Carnival at The Hall: New Year’s Eve With Sergio Mendes and Sheila E. at Disney Hall in Los Angeles. Germaine Franco has appeared as a headliner with her own ensemble at many festivals including the Festival Internacional de La Raza at CECUT in Mexico, The Houston Jazz Festival at the Miller Outdoor Theater in Houston, the J. Paul Getty Museum Chamber Music Series at the Getty Villa in Malibu, and the Artes de Mexico Festival at LACMA.
