Carrin Tanaka is a Los Angeles-based composer who specializes in scoring for film and visual media. Her works have been screened at Warner Brothers Studios and film festivals around the world. Several projects have also gone on to receive distribution through Indieflix, Kaleidoscope Kids TV Network, and Amazon. In 2015, Carrin was one of nine composers chosen to participate in BMI’s Composing for the Screen Fellowship in New York.

Carrin’s musical life began at a young age with piano and voice lessons. Singing as a mezzo-soprano in various choirs provided her the opportunity to tour in Spain, France, Austria, New Zealand, and throughout Eastern Europe. Although fascinated by the art of performing, she discovered that composition is her true passion. She received dual degrees in music composition and ethnomusicology from the University of California, Davis and was also afforded the opportunity to study ethnomusicology at the Università degli studi di Padova in Italy for a semester. Being a long time cinema-lover lead Carrin to find her niche within film music, allowing her to collaborate with innovative, award-winning artists.

After graduation, Carrin moved to LA and accepted a position at Score Revolution, a boutique film music licensing company, and sister company Evolution Music Partners, a talent agency for composers, enabling her to learn the business-end of the industry. She simultaneously worked and developed her style as a film composer, scoring shorts and features, and is now composing full-time. She also currently serves as a board member of the Academy of Scoring Arts, an educational organization for composers, musicians and filmmakers, founded by Ron Jones.
