Christy Carew is a Canadian-American composer of music for film, TV, advertising, multimedia and the concert world. She decided she wanted to be a film music composer at the age of 6 after seeing “Star Wars” for the first time, telling her parents, “I want to make music like that!” while racing around the house conducting and singing.

Christy has thoroughly been enjoying living a life full of music ever since. She loves to score all genres of film and has worked in horror, comedy, action and drama. Christy also really enjoys scoring short form and feature documentaries. Highlights include the 2012 martial arts action crime thriller “The Lackey” and the powerful 2016 short form documentary about infertility, “The Empty Womb.” Her most recent project is the upcoming indie sci-fi short entitled “Virtually.”

In 2012, Christy was selected from hundreds of applicants and hired to be Music Director and In-House Composer at one of the largest production music libraries in the world. Through her work at 5 Alarm Music, she has had placements of her custom original music and arrangements in major studio features, network television shows and national advertising campaigns. (Ask her sometime about being on set of the hit CBS show “Scorpion” performing her Bach arrangement with a six-figure robotic arm taped to her forearm.) Christy has a true passion for collaboration and serving the project, in whatever medium she’s working in.

Christy is active in the media composing community, as a member of the Society of Composers and Lyricists, Membership Coordinator for The Alliance for Women Film Composers, and the TV Academy Music Peer Group.

She was educated at New York University’s Steinhardt School and graduated summa cum laude in 2006 with a Master of Arts in Film Scoring/CompositionChristy also has a Bachelor of Music (Piano Performance and Music Business) from Loyola University New Orleans (2004) and a diploma as composer from the summer program of the European American Musical Alliance, held at L’Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris (2005.)

When she’s not making music, she’s spending time with her amazing husband and beautiful children, reading sci-fi and fantasy novels voraciously, dreaming of the Sierra Nevada and thinking way too much about the Fermi Paradox.

Additional music on The Blacklist, NBC/USA pilot “Stanistan” starring Jennifer Carpenter, arrangement in main title of The Purge: Anarchy
