Bonnie Ruth Janofsky
Bonnie, is a native Angelino from a musical family. Her father played alto sax with Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Xavier Cugat and the Dorsey Brothers. She began piano at age 9, followed by drums and arranging/orchestration in college, and then composition and conducting.
Bonnie completed her BA and graduate work at CSULA and participated in the world famous Earle Hagen BMI Film Scoring Workshop. She completed the USC Advanced Studies Program, Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television, where she received the annual BMI Award. She is a 2001 Los Angeles Music Week honoree, and studied composition with noted film and television composer David Angel.
A multi-faceted writer and performer, Bonnie’s experience covers a broad range of styles and musical idioms. She is a highly regarded pianist and drummer.
Bonnie’s writing credits include composing and arranging for a multitude of films, jingles, live shows – including Jay Leno’s Tonight Show – vocalists, big bands and from combos to symphony orchestras in all genre. Her award winning film scores have been featured in numerous festivals.
Her most recent feature scores are writer/director Mark Marchillo’s “Breaking Legs” and the upcoming “Lookin’ Up” by well-known character actor Marvin Kaplan.
Bonnie created the all-women big band, “Maiden Voyage,” and appeared on Johnny Carson’s Tonight Show, as well as on a Big Band Weekend opposite Count Basie, Woody Herman, Harry James and Maynard Ferguson. Her Jazz waltz, “Olivia’s First Waltz,” was awarded Best Instrumental Jazz Song at the Just Plain Folks 2002 Music Awards. Her biography appears in “Who’s Who in Entertainment.” She was a 2006 American Society of Music Arrangers and Composers honoree.
In theatre, Bonnie composed in the Playwright-Composer Studio 2000 of the A.S.K. Theater Project. She has completed over a dozen full-length shows, is currently composing and arranging for several new stage and film musicals and is a member of New Musicals, Inc. “Muffins”, with book and lyrics by J. Linn Allen, won Best Original Music in the 2nd annual Premiere Premieres Festival at MCL Chicago in 2016.
