Allyson Newman studied composition at the Sydney Conservartorium of Music and was introduced to the film world by creating music for Dolby to showcase their technology at the Audio Engineers Society Conferences in Munich and New York. This led Allyson to seek out directors in Sydney and work on films such as Cheek to Cheek (Winner, Palm Springs Int) and her first feature film Watermark which screened at the Cannes Film Festival.
Allyson moved to L.A in 2004 to study at the University of Southern California and following USC she attended the Aspen Music School where she studied with notable film composers Thomas Newman and Jeff Rona. Allyson has been awarded both an Australia Council for the Arts Grant and an Australian Guild of Screen Composers Award for her work in film music.
In 2006 Allyson formed a music production company in Los Angeles called Quartertonemusik. She received a bronze award at the Park City Film Music Festival for Jason Roberts film Tell-Tale and scored the film Love is Love starring Jane Lynch which premiered at San Francisco’s Frameline Film Festival and went on to receive rave reviews at Palm Spring International.
In 2013 Allyson scored the feature film This Thing With Sarah which premiered at the Chinese Mann Theatres for the Dances With Films Festival, as well as a dramatic thriller Private Life which premiered as part of the “Best of Fest” at the Palm Springs Film Festival June 18th 2014
Most recently Allyson scored the multi award winning documentary feature Limited Partnership that premiered across the U.S. on PBS July 2015. Currently Allyson is working alongside writing partner Matt Novack on a new comedy series Filthy Preppy Teen$ which will premiere on YouTube in January as well as the two-time Emmy Winning TV series Childrens Hospital staring Henry Winkler, Megan Mullally and Rob Corddry.
